St Davids

St David of Mynyw

Originally a monastery founded by St David, in 1123 papal privilege was bestowed upon the cathedral and this made it a focus for pilgrims. St David taught his followers to ‘be joyful, to keep the faith and to do the little things’ and today pilgrims and visitors come in hundreds of thousands, still finding this one of the world’s ‘thin’ places.
With a nave ceiling made entirely of Welsh oak, a Rose window that has been re-shaped through the Cathedral’s history from the 14th century when the Bishop wanted to let in more light and had larger windows built to Gilbert Scott’s 19th century renovation which preserved the window’s history. It is now filled with 20th-century stained glass by the William Morris Company.
